Tricks and tips to get the optimal Hilton Head rental home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Spacious Home 2 Masters Golf / Lagoon Views (with dock) Ideal for Big Family has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
