Tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Make a plan and choose your Hilton Head vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Spacious Home 2 Masters Golf \/ Lagoon Views (with dock) Ideal for Big Family has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is best for your trip.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
