Vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:

  • Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:

  • To start, have your group decide on trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanfront villa with WiFi, full kitchen, pool, & hot tub - beach nearby has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
