Rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- To find the best value, consider changing your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Second floor coastal villa 2 minutes to the beach & Arthur Hills golf course! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. Otherwise, email the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
