Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Make a plan and choose your prefect Hilton Head rental:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Multi-Level Townhouse with Pool, Hot Tub, & Tennis - Walk to the Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Have a great stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
