Booking the best vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Reserve your Hilton Head rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Begin by selecting a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Ideally located condo with pool, tennis court, bikes, balcony, deck, W\/D & AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. text the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
