Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Luxury Private Oceanfront Condo w\/Balcony, Free WiFi, & Shared Outdoor Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or applied to your contract.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
