Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Finding the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lagoon waterfront villa with pools, hot tub, & gym - walk to beach has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
