Getting the best Hilton Head rental experience:

Get the best value:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing yourrental home:

  • Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. A Relaxing Getaway with Shared Pools and Hot Tub in an Oceanfront Villa has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
