Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to select the best rental:

  • Choose your dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Family-Friendly Condo w\/Free WiFi, Covered Porch, Washer\/Dryer, and Shared Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Additional considerations:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
