Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.

  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
