Strategies to get the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:

  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • First and foremost, have your group decide on date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Sunset Rentals
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
