Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly condo with pool, tennis, patio, balcony, & washer\/dryer has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
