Strategies for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Finding your best deal:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by having your group choose dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 2 Beach Villa Steps From the Sand! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Additional considerations:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
