Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your budget:
- To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beautifully Updated Home with Extraordinary Lagoon and Golf Views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
