Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To find the largest rental home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and choose the right Hilton Head rental:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Secluded getaway: private hot tub & deck - less than a mile to Shipyard Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is best for your group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
