Our top Hilton Head vacation rental tips and tricks:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing and booking the bestvacation home:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 1400 sq ft of nothing but comfort and fun! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
