Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental home experience:

When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants.
  • Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Select your vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Upgraded condo on waterfront with pool, hot tub, & tennis access - near beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
