Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hilton Head attractions.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Peaceful Oceanfront Villa with Pools, Hot Tub, Tennis, & Ocean View has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
