Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To book the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the best rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Island oasis with balcony, beach access, pool, hot tub has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
