Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To find the best value, change your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Lovely, water-view townhouse with pool - short walk to Harbour Town & playground has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. Otherwise, contact the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. text the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
