Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation property experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hilton Head attractions.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Hilton Head rental home:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Golf Course-Adjacent Villa w/ Fast WiFi, Central A/C, Washer/Dryer, Shared Pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. Otherwise, email the host before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
