Our top Vacation rental home tips:

When to go & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the best rental:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Stunning Condo in Plantation Club with Views of the Golf Course and On-site Amenities! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
