Tips to get the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. Book your rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the rightrental home:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Beachwalk 138
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
