Tips to get the best vacation property experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your Hilton Head vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Wonderful Three Bedroom Home on the 11-Mile Lagoon! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

More tips for your visit:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • To make sure damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Contact the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
