Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning and choosing yourvacation home:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Spacious home with private pool & central AC - walk to beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
