Rental booking tips:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and choosing the perfectrental:

  • First, have your family select vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. View of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
