Strategies for getting the best rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Booking in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning, selecting, and booking your Hilton Head rental:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. View of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
