Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Secluded & Peaceful - Vacation Getaway with WiFi, Pool, Hot Tub, & Private Beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
