Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- To get the best value, consider changing your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your family choose the best dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 434 Captains Walk, Oceanfront,1st Floor Walkout, Fully Renovated, Golf has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is optimal for your group.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
