Strategies to get the best rental home experience:
Get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Choosing and booking a perfect Hilton Head vacation home:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Gorgeous oceanfront beach home with private pool in Palmetto Dunes sleeps 22 has 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If not, reach out to the host before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
