Tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Renovated home with private screened pool, lagoon views & nearby beach access has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
