Rental booking tips:
When to go & When to book:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Condo with Balcony, Shared Pool, Playground, Hot Tub & Gym has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your trip.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Advice for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
