Booking the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting and booking the perfectrental:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Beautifully renovated villa with stunning views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
