Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking a perfect Hilton Head rental:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Ocean-View Condo with Beach Access, Tennis, Playground, Shared Pool & Hot Tub has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
