Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First, have your group commit to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Relaxing retreat near the beach with washer\/dryer, AC, and pool & hot tub access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
