Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Hilton Head rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and picking the rightrental:
- Select your dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Family-friendly condo with balcony, outdoor pool, central AC, & washer\/dryer has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your trip.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
