Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Get the best value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. Book your Hilton Head rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Lagoon and Golf Course Views! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
