Strategies for getting the perfect rental experience:
Finding the best value:
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Waterfront condo with seasonal pools, hot tub, balcony, AC, & W/D has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
