Tricks and tips for getting the best vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- The sooner you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the right Hilton Head rental home:
- Select your vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Comfortable villa with pool, hot tub, lagoon view & nearby beach access has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs applied to your agreement.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
