Our top Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the best rental home in Hilton Head:

  • First, have your family decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 3rd-floor condo with private balcony, AC, W\/D, on-site pools, hot tub & tennis has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
