Tips to get the best vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefect Hilton Head rental:

  • To start, have your group decide on trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Exquisite oceanfront top-floor condo has the feel of paradise on earth has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
