Strategies to get the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to pick the perfect rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Large Six Bedroom Custom-Built Home with Private Pool! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for your stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
