Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, shift your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Large Six Bedroom Custom-Built Home with Private Pool! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

More considerations for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
