Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your group choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Come Enjoy this Two-Bedroom Condominium Just Steps from the Beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Advice for a great stay:
- Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
