Rental home tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Well-appointed villa with rooftop pool & beach access - 1 block to Coligny Plaza has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
