Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting the best vacation home:
- Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Newly updated 3 bedroom townhome, short walk to beach - great weeks available has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If not, email or call the host before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
