How to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Waterfront villa at Harbour Town with balcony & incredible golf course view has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
