Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, selecting, and booking your Hilton Head rental:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Waterfront Condo with Shared Pools, Hot Tubs, Private Balconies, and Ocean Views has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
