How to book the best vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Make a plan and pick the perfectrental:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Updated Hilton Head Island Vacation Rental! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Contact the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
