Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:

When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking your vacation rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the perfect rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Third-floor condo with pool access, fast WiFi, & washer/dryer - close to beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
