Booking the best Hilton Head rental experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Two-story villa with 3 pools, tennis & bikes - walk to Coligny Plaza & beach has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you crave, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
