Tips to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Finding the best value:

  • Book your Hilton Head rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing the best vacation home in Hilton Head:

  • Begin by selecting a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Smartly Decorated Updated Two Bedroom Villa Walking Distance to the Ocean! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
